Dr. Daryl Wile is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, affiliated with the Department of Medicine and the Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management. He practices at the Okanagan Movement Disorders Clinic in Kelowna General Hospital and serves as Clinical Education Leader for Neurology at UBC's Southern Medical Program.
Research Interests: His work focuses on Parkinson’s disease, leveraging telemedicine and noninvasive monitoring to address clinical and geographical disparities. Key areas include neuroimaging (e.g., PET studies of neurotransmitter systems), genetic factors (LRRK2 mutations), and neurotechnology (e.g., wearable accelerometry for tremor analysis). His research spans neurodegenerative disorders, neurochemical imaging, and disease-modifying therapies.
Publications & Projects: Dr. Wile has contributed to studies on Parkinson’s disease biomarkers, including investigations of serotonergic and cholinergic systems using PET. He leads the ParkinSMART initiative, which employs technology for symptom monitoring, and collaborates on clinical trials for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Teaching Contributions: He teaches in UBC’s Foundations of Medical Practice courses, focusing on clinical skills, and contributes to clerkship programs and lectures in the Southern Medical Program.
