Dr. Darwin Gouwanda is an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at Monash University Malaysia, specializing in Mechanical Engineering. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and a Bachelor's in Mechatronics Engineering, both from Monash University. His research focuses on human motion analysis using wearable devices and assistive/rehabilitation robotics. He leads the Shell Eco-marathon Asia team, which has won multiple awards, including GTL/CNG prototype championships and the Global Autonomous Programming Challenge in 2021. He is an active member of IEEE EMBS Malaysia, serving as Chapter Chair since 2023 and Technical Program Chair for the IEEE IECBES conference.

His research explores biomechanics of human motion, including gait analysis, rehabilitation robotics (e.g., ankle robots, hand exoskeletons), and sustainable waste management via palm oil effluent treatment. Recent projects include heat adaptation strategies in semi-rural Malaysia and sit-to-walk transition dynamics.
Key awards include Gold Awards at Malaysia Technology Expo (2023/2024) and Best Paper Awards (2015/2018). He has led/co-led 9 research projects, including collaborations on climate health and anaerobic digestion optimization. His teaching includes Dynamics, Electromechanics, and Final Year Projects.
Labs/teams include the Shell Eco-marathon team and IEEE EMBS Malaysia leadership roles, emphasizing interdisciplinary innovation in healthcare and environmental sustainability.
