Darshan G. Pahinkar is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department at Florida Institute of Technology, with affiliate appointments in Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry & Chemical Engineering. He leads the Adsorption and Energy Technology Laboratory (AETL), focusing on climate change mitigation through energy-efficient thermal systems.
- PhD from Georgia Tech (2016)
- M.E. from Indian Institute of Science (2009)
- B.E. from Government College of Engineering, Pune (2006)
- Prior industry experience at Tata Motors (2009-2011)
- Postdoctoral work at Georgia Tech (2016-2017)
His research spans adsorption-based thermal energy systems, CO2 capture technologies, microchannel heat transfer, and biomedical thermal management. Current projects include NSF-funded work on gas-liquid-adsorbent interactions and DOE-supported biological CO2 conversion to bio-oil.
Recent publications highlight advancements in adsorbent-coated microchannels for HVAC systems, yeast-engineered porous layers for carbon capture, and thermal modeling for heart transplants. Funded awards include multiple Florida Tech research incentives and significant external grants.
He teaches graduate courses in heat transfer, thermal management, and fluid mechanics. Current advisees include PhD candidates Samuel Babatunde Olushola and Jakia Sharmin Mim, along with multiple MS and BS researchers.
