Dr. Darren Southee is a Full-Time Associate Professor (SL+) at Loughborough University’s School of Design and Creative Arts (SDCA), specializing in Design Engineering and Printed Electronics. Since 2010, he has led 4* Design research, managed projects, and mentored staff/students in curriculum development and technical prototyping. He pioneered the DSP853 Design for AI Products module, integrating AI/ML into design education.
His research focuses on additive manufacturing, flexible electronics, and smart materials. Key areas include 3D-printed thermistors, supercapacitors, and TPMS lattice structures for biomedical applications. He emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, bridging design, engineering, and technology.
Prof. Southee actively contributes to industry collaboration through initiatives like the OE-A Working Group Education, promoting training in organic electronics. His work addresses sustainability and emerging technologies, with over 40 publications since 2005.
