His academic credentials include a degree from Chester College of Higher Education, a Master's in Police Studies from the University of Exeter (focusing on police resource allocation), and dual postgraduate teaching qualifications: a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Training in Higher Education plus a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Training in Higher Education (PgCLTHE).
