Darrell F.X. Finnegan, S.J., was a Professor of Education at Loyola University (now Loyola Marymount University) from 1949 to 1974. He served as Chair of the Education Department, co-director of the Guidance Center, and held visiting scholar positions in Japan and Europe. He was ordained as a priest in 1944 and took final vows as a Jesuit in 1947.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Philosophy and Master's in English from Gonzaga University
- Licentiate of Sacred Theology from Alma College (now Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley)
- Ph.D. in Education from the Catholic University of America
Contributions: Finnegan played a pivotal role in establishing LMU's graduate education programs at the Westchester campus. He was a longtime Jesuit trustee and actively involved in professional organizations, including serving as president of the Far Western Philosophy of Education Society and the California Council on the Education of Teachers. He also held board roles with the California State Central Coordinating Committee on Higher Education.
Later Life: After retiring from LMU, he served as pastor at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Phoenix, Arizona, until his death in 1981. He remains celebrated in LMU's Faculty Hall of Fame.
