Darpan Triboan is a Lecturer in Computing (Apprenticeship) at De Montfort University, affiliated with the School of Computer Science and Informatics within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. He is an active researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Smart Environments, with affiliations to the Context, Intelligence and Interaction Research Group (CIIRG), Software Technology Research Laboratory (STRL), and the Cyber Technology Institute (CTI).
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Computer Science
- MSc in Software Engineering
- BSc (Hons) in Computer Science
His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, particularly Knowledge Representation and Reasoning in Ambient Assisted Living Systems using real-time multimodal IoT devices and wireless sensor networks. He is currently advancing AI applications in Coupled Climate Modelling to support sustainable, low-cost housing in flood-prone regions. His expertise spans semantic web technologies, ontology modeling, fuzzy logic, context-aware systems, and hybrid cloud/edge computing architectures.
Darpan has been recognized with multiple awards, including a Best Paper Award and IEEE Outstanding Service Award at the 2019 IEEE Smart World Congress. He has secured competitive grants such as the Royal Society-Newton Mobility Grant and received consistent institutional support through DMU scholarships and travel awards.
He plays a significant role in academic service and student development, serving as Deputy Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (DSTP) Apprenticeship. He has supervised over 20 MSc projects and currently supervises PhD student Harry Boadu. His teaching spans apprenticeship, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, covering topics such as data structures, semantic web technologies, and project management.
He is actively involved in the academic community through roles in conference organizing committees, including IEEE UIC2021 (TPC Member), IEEE Smart World Congress 2019 (Secretary/Assistant Program Chair), and UCAMI 2018 (TPC Member). He also chaired student programs at DMU’s postgraduate research conference.
