Darla Himeles is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the English & Creative Writing department at Widener University. Her academic background includes a PhD in English from Temple University (2020), an MFA in Poetry and Poetry in Translation from Drew University (2012), and a BA in English (summa cum laude) from Bryn Mawr College (2006). Her research focuses on contemporary American poetry, multiethnic literature, Jewish Studies, and ecopoetry. Himeles is the author of two poetry collections: Cleave (2021) and Flesh Enough (2017), praised for their lyrical exploration of trauma, environmental advocacy, and queer love. She has received notable awards including the 2024 Highlights Foundation Scholarship and the 2018 AAC&U Future Leaders Award.
Her work bridges personal narrative with global ecological crises, using poetry to confront historical and environmental loss. Reviews highlight her ability to weave intimate family stories with themes of extinction and inherited memory.
