Dariusz Szpoper is a Professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk, specializing in political thought, constitutional history, and the legal frameworks of the Russian Empire. His research focuses on Polish conservative movements in the 19th century, legal institutions in partitioned Poland, and statehood concepts in Eastern Europe. He is a Visiting Professor at Oleg Kutafin Moscow State Law University and an Honorary Doctor of Tbilisi State University.
Key research interests include the political thought of 19th-century Polish elites, legal reforms under Russian rule, and the intersection of law and sovereignty. His work spans monographs like *Sukcesorzy Wielkiego Księstwa* (1999) and articles analyzing figures such as Alexander Wielopolski and Michał Speranski. He has delivered lectures globally, including at conferences in Moscow, Tbilisi, and Kaunas.
Recipient of prestigious awards including Lithuania’s Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit and the Gold Medal of the Russian Historical Society, Szpoper is actively involved in scholarly organizations such as the Scientific Council of the Institute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the editorial boards of *Vestnik of Saint Petersburg University-Law* and *Journal of Polish-Georgian Law*. His recent work explores legal humanitarianism in 18th-century Russia and the legacy of Fiodor Martens in international law.
