Dario Voinovich is a Full Professor at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Trieste, specializing in pharmaceutical technology and drug formulation. He serves on the Department's Board, Boards of Studies, and Doctoral Studies Boards while leading key research initiatives.
His research focuses on mechanochemistry and solvent-free pharmaceutical processes, particularly polymer-assisted grinding (POLAG) for cocrystallization and solid-state activation of poorly bioavailable drugs. His work bridges nanotechnology with sustainable drug formulation, emphasizing green chemistry principles and particle engineering for enhanced drug delivery.
Voinovich's recent publications demonstrate innovative approaches to mechanochemical cocrystal formation, with significant implications for polymorphism control and particle size management in pharmaceutical development. His research group pioneers methods like melt-extrusion and spray congealing for advanced drug delivery systems.
He actively participates in MIUR-funded research projects including 3D-printed antibiotic oral dosage forms for pediatric use (active until 2025) and previously led the 10%budget ricerca - Biasin Alice- Chimica XXXVII project (2021-2024). His collaborations with CNR Bologna and researchers like Beatrice Perissutti highlight his role in national pharmaceutical research networks.
Voinovich leads the Salification and Mechanochemical Activation Research Group, which investigates solid-state drug activation techniques. His team includes researchers like Dritan Hasa and Beatrice Perissutti, focusing on translating mechanochemical innovations into practical pharmaceutical applications through solvent-free technological processes.
