Darin W Nutter is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and has been affiliated with the University of Arkansas since 1994, progressing from Assistant Professor to Professor and serving as Department Head (2016-2024) and Director of the Arkansas Industrial Energy Clearinghouse (2010-2016).
- Education: Ph.D. (1994, Texas A&M), M.S. (1988, Oklahoma State), B.S. (1986, Oklahoma State)
- Licensure: Registered Professional Engineer in Arkansas (1997-present) and Texas (1993-1997)
Research Interests focus on thermal systems, energy conservation, and sustainability, including:
- Heat transfer and thermodynamics in HVAC&R systems
- Liquid-vapor phase change phenomena
- Energy efficiency in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities
- Building performance and life-cycle assessment (LCA)
Scientific Awards include multiple ASHRAE and ASEE honors, University of Arkansas College of Engineering recognitions, and induction into the Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineers. His work on carbon nanotubes in refrigerant systems won a prestigious ASHRAE Technical Paper Award.
