Daren Pickles is an Associate Professor and Curriculum Lead in Music Technology at Coventry University, affiliated with the CAS School of Arts & Creative Industries. With over 25 years in creative audio technology, he has a dual career in academia and the music/film industries. He holds an MSc in Music Information Technology from City University London and is pursuing a PhD in cybernetic feedback systems in music.
His research focuses on cybernetics, sonic ecosystems, and long-form improvisation, combining theoretical frameworks with practical audio experimentation. Notable projects include collaborations on film soundtracks for 'Goal!' and '2 Fast 2 Furious', as well as immersive performance works like 'The Beast'.
He has organized conferences such as INTIME 2015–2016 and delivered lectures on sound design and musical innovation. His work bridges academic research with creative practice, emphasizing feedback systems and emergent sonic environments.
