معرفی
Dany Jacob is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Cultures & Languages at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. His academic roles include teaching French language, literature, and Francophone studies, with a focus on cultural and gender-related themes. Prior to this, he held positions at Michigan Technological University as Associate Teaching Professor (2021–2023), Assistant Teaching Professor (2017–2021), and Visiting Assistant Professor (2016–2017). He originally hails from Luxembourg and holds a PhD in French and Francophone Studies from SUNY at Buffalo, alongside earlier degrees in European Cultures from Luxembourg and France.
His research explores the intersection of cultural identity, aesthetics, and gender through lenses such as dandyism, fin-de-siècle Europe, and the performative nature of sociocultural identities. He investigates how historical concepts like dandyism influence modern notions of masculinity and cultural myths, often analyzing these through works by authors like Huysmans, Proust, and filmmakers such as Ocelot. His recent publications emphasize nontraditional identities and their impact on reader and viewer experiences.
Dr. Jacob actively participates in academic conferences, such as presenting at the 8th World Conference on Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (May 2023) and the American Comparative Literature Association (May 2023). He contributed to the UWL delegation at the Universities of Wisconsin Faculty College (May 2023), focusing on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
His teaching portfolio includes courses like French Cinema, Literary Voices in Translation (Feminism and Patriarchy), and French for Professional Communication. He also advises on topics related to Francophone culture and gender studies, though no formal advisees are listed. His work bridges language learning with professional and cultural analysis, as seen in creative projects mentioned under 'Writing in Global Cultures & Languages.'
