Danuta Bukatko is a Professor in the Psychology Department at the College of the Holy Cross, with an affiliation in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her research focuses on cognitive development in early childhood, including memory, problem-solving, and numerical understanding, as well as gender-role development and social status cues in children. She has authored multiple textbooks on child and adolescent development, including Child Development: A Thematic Approach and Child and Adolescent Development.
Recent grants include projects on foundational mathematics concepts for educational transitions and attracting liberal arts STEM students to teaching, totaling over $1.2 million in funding. Her work bridges developmental science with educational practice, emphasizing how cognitive processes in early childhood predict later academic success.
Bukatko’s publications span developmental theories, cross-cultural studies of achievement narratives, and gender dynamics in digital communication. Her research also explores verbal and nonverbal cues children use to assess social power, with a focus on cross-cultural comparisons.
