Dr. Danna Gibson serves as a Professor in the Department of Communication at Columbus State University, where she has held a faculty position since 2001 after previously teaching at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.
She earned her Ph.D. in communication from the University of Memphis, establishing her academic foundation in communication theory and practice.
Professor Gibson's research centers on family communication, organizational communication, and community communication, conceptualizing communication as praxis—the transformative action that builds connection in interpersonal, professional, and societal contexts. Her work emphasizes how communication combats disillusionment and cynicism by fostering relational bonds, with publications spanning state, regional, and national journals including Communication Yearbook 28.
She actively contributes to her discipline through manuscript reviews for the Southern Communication Journal and leadership as an officer in the American Communication Association, demonstrating sustained professional engagement beyond classroom instruction.
