Danna Gifford is a Lecturer in the Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics at the University of Manchester. Her research integrates experimental, mathematical, and genomic approaches to study microbial evolution, focusing on antibiotic resistance, extremophile adaptation, and evolutionary dynamics. She holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford (2014) and an MSc in Biology from the University of Ottawa (2011).

Her research interests include:
- Evolvability of Antibiotic Resistance: Investigating why certain bacteria evolve resistance more efficiently, using genomic and experimental evolution approaches.
- Antibiotic Combination Therapies: Designing treatments that suppress resistance emergence in pathogens like Escherichia coli.
- Extremophile Evolution: Studying adaptation of archaea like Sulfolobus acidocaldarius under extreme conditions.
Recent Projects:
- Funded by BBSRC to develop genome engineering strategies against resistance.
- Springboard Award (Academy of Medical Sciences) for combination therapy research.
- NERC/Royal Society grants for extremophile evolutionary studies.
She collaborates on large-scale initiatives such as the Oxford Nanopore PromethION project and leads the Evolutionary mechanisms and dynamics research group. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and environmental sustainability.
