Danille Christensen

Danille Christensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religion and Culture at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the Appalachian Studies, Food Studies, and Material Culture & Public Humanities graduate programs. Her research focuses on the politics of knowledge production about marginalized groups in the U.S., particularly through material carework practices such as home canning, ritualized sport, scrapbooking, gardening, and indigenous foodscapes.

• Research Themes: Examines intersections of genre, rhetoric, and performance in analyzing material practices tied to marginalized communities.
• Notable Projects: Forthcoming book on home canning as a response to ideological and material threats in U.S. history.
• Publications: Contributed to Journal of American Folklore, Journal of Folklore Research, Southern Cultures, and edited volumes.

Teaching: Offers courses in American studies, Appalachian studies, folklore, food studies, material culture, and ethnography of communication.
