Dr. Danielle Wood is a Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Tasmania's School of Humanities, specializing in creative writing and Tasmanian cultural studies. She holds a PhD from Edith Cowan University (2003) and a BA(Hons) from the University of Tasmania (1993). Her work bridges fiction, non-fiction, and environmental advocacy, with a focus on Tasmania's history, ecology, and folklore.
Her research interests include reimagining fairy tales through a contemporary feminist lens, documenting Tasmanian cultural heritage, and exploring environmental activism through narrative. Notable works include The Alphabet of Light and Dark (Vogel Literary Prize winner, 2002), Housewife Superstar, and co-edited collections like Deep South and Island Story.
Recent projects include essays on takayna/Tarkine conservation and Lake Pedder restoration, as well as collaborative works combining poetry, visual art, and music. She has held residencies at the Maritime Museum of Tasmania and contributed to exhibitions like water[shed].
Awards and recognitions include being named a Sydney Morning Herald 'Best Young Novelist' (2004, 2007), and her work has been translated internationally. Her current project, Pink Sand, explores the human and ecological legacy of Lake Pedder.
