Danielle Kloster is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sustainable Resources Management at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). She holds a PhD in Natural Resources and the Environment from the University of Connecticut (2020) and completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in Environmental Science at ESF (BS 2012, MS 2014). Her academic journey includes roles as a Lecturer (2020-2023) and Visiting Instructor (2019) at ESF, alongside a USDA National Needs Doctoral Fellowship (2014–2018) and Graduate Assistantship (2012–2014).
Her research focuses on sustainable resource management, particularly carbon accounting, soil erosion modeling, and urban forestry. Key projects include developing frameworks for biogenic carbon in net-zero targets, assessing storm-resistant roadside forests (Stormwise initiative), and analyzing human dimensions of utility vegetation management. She also explores interdisciplinary adaptive management strategies for natural resource challenges.
Dr. Kloster advises two graduate students: Anna Cross (MS in Forest Resources Management) and Elysia Palmieri (PhD in Environmental Science, co-advised with Weiss). She has secured grants including the USDA Fellowship and contributes to initiatives like the Stormwise program. Her work frequently bridges ecological science with community engagement and policy applications.
