Daniele Vigolo is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Engineering, University of Sydney. He holds an honorary position at the University of Birmingham and is affiliated with the Sydney Nano Institute. His research focuses on microfluidics, soft matter, and complex fluids, with applications in biomedical engineering, particularly in studying deep vein thrombosis and biomaterials.
Education: Laurea (5-year Master) in Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2006), PhD in Radiation Science and Technology (2010). Postdoctoral positions at Harvard, Princeton, and ETH Zurich before joining Birmingham in 2015 and Sydney in 2020.
Research interests include bio-fluid dynamics, microfluidic platforms for disease modeling, and functional biomaterials. His work combines experimental and theoretical approaches to investigate multiphase flows, thermophoresis, and interfacial phenomena.
Recent articles highlight advancements in neuromorphic cytometry, biomolecular condensates, and microfluidic applications in healthcare. He has secured grants for projects like the 3D microvessel-on-chip platform and groundwater quality sensors. Supervised 9 PhD students and 2 postdocs at Birmingham, focusing on thrombosis, biomaterials, and microbial fuel cells.
