Daniele Procissi, PhD is a Research Professor in Radiology (Basic and Translational Radiology Research) at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He serves as the Director of the Preclinical Molecular Imaging Core Facility, a position he has held for the past 12 years. With over 20 years of professional experience in preclinical imaging, Dr. Procissi has previously worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Caltech before joining Northwestern.
Dr. Procissi's research focuses on multimodal preclinical molecular imaging using various techniques including MRI, PET, CT, SPECT, ultrasound, and optical imaging. His work centers on designing optimal molecular imaging experiments that provide parametric and quantitative read-outs linked to disease biology. He specializes in identifying, testing, and validating molecular imaging biomarkers for real-world decision-making in novel therapeutic development. His scientific interests align with enhancing the integration of preclinical imaging into biomedical research projects through multi-technique and multi-parametric frameworks.
Analysis of Dr. Procissi's recent publications reveals a strong focus on translational imaging applications across multiple disease areas. His work spans neuroscience (particularly pain research and neurodegenerative conditions), oncology (cancer imaging and theranostics), and advanced imaging methodology development. A significant portion of his recent work involves functional MRI applications in awake animal models, particularly rabbits, which provides valuable insights into cognitive processes and neurological conditions. His research demonstrates a consistent emphasis on quantitative imaging biomarkers and their clinical translation potential.
Dr. Procissi actively contributes to academic education through roles in Northwestern's graduate college and medical school. He has consistently fulfilled institutional roles and actively contributed to outreach and recruitment projects. His leadership extends to operational management of the Preclinical Molecular Imaging Core Facility, where he oversees day-to-day operations, staff management, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning for imaging research support.
As Director of the Preclinical Molecular Imaging Core Facility, Dr. Procissi leads a team that provides multimodal imaging services to support biomedical research at Northwestern. His facility integrates various imaging modalities to offer comprehensive preclinical imaging solutions for researchers across multiple disciplines. The core facility plays a vital role in advancing translational research by bridging basic science discoveries with potential clinical applications through sophisticated imaging approaches.
