Daniela Vicherat Mattar is an Associate Professor at Leiden University College (LUC), part of Leiden University. She is affiliated with the Governance and Global Affairs school and the Humanities department. Her research focuses on cities, citizenship, care, and public space, with a regional focus on Europe and Latin America. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute and previously served as a Marie-Curie Fellow at the University of Edinburgh.
Key research interests include urban forms and infrastructures (e.g., walls, markets, museums), urban aesthetics (graffiti/street art), and interdisciplinary approaches to global challenges. Recent work explores solidarity during the pandemic and food waste practices in The Hague, supported by a Global Transformations and Governance Challenges (GTGC) grant.
She convenes the Culture, History and Society major at LUC and collaborates with the Leiden Latin American and Caribbean Centre. Her teaching includes courses on social theory, citizenship, and vulnerability studies.
