Daniela Gretz serves as Interim Professor for Modern German Literature at the University of Paderborn within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Department of German Studies and Comparative Literature. Her academic work bridges literary scholarship with media theory, focusing on the intersections of German literary traditions and broader cultural discourses across historical periods.
Her research interests span German Realism, media theory, postcolonial perspectives on German literature, and the relationship between periodical formats and literary production. She examines how 19th century journals shaped literary aesthetics, investigates African representations in German literature from colonial to contemporary periods, and analyzes the transnational dimensions of modernist magazine culture. Her work consistently explores the mediality and materiality of literary texts within their historical contexts.
Gretz's publication record reveals a sustained scholarly trajectory examining how periodical formats influenced literary production, particularly in German Realism. Her work demonstrates a methodological approach that combines media archaeology with literary analysis, revealing how journal publication contexts shaped textual form and content. Recent publications increasingly address postcolonial perspectives on German literature, examining representations of Africa and Black German experiences across historical periods.
