Daniela Flesler is a Professor in the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature at Stony Brook University. She specializes in Contemporary Spanish Literature and Cultural Studies, focusing on Spain's cultural identity negotiations related to its Jewish and Arab heritages, as well as Moroccan immigration. Her work explores how historical legacies influence minority communities in modern Spain.
Her notable publications include *The Return of the Moor: Spanish Responses to Contemporary Moroccan Immigration* (2008) and *The Memory Work of Jewish Spain* (2020), the latter co-authored with Adrián Pérez Melgosa and awarded the 2021 National Jewish Book Award. She has co-edited volumes on Jewish Spain's modern memory, including *Revisiting Jewish Spain in the Modern Era* (2013).
Her research spans cultural memory, minority identities, and the intersections of history, literature, and public policy. Awards include ACLS and NEH fellowships.
