Daniela Fantoni Alvares is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Tourism Degree Program at the University of the Azores, Portugal. She is also a researcher at the Centre of Applied Economics Studies of the Atlantic (CEEaplA) and an external researcher at the Competitiveness, Governance and Public Policy (GOVCOPP) group at the University of Aveiro. Her research focuses on tourism planning, management, sustainability, cultural heritage, and fuzzy logic applications in tourism. She leads projects such as TRANSlighthouses and SIEMCI and has held management roles in Brazil's Ministry of Tourism, coordinating federal programs like the Tourism Regionalization Program.
Education: PhD in Planning (University of Minho) and MBA in Tourism.
Research Interests: Daniela's work explores sustainable tourism practices, post-pandemic recovery strategies, tourism innovation ecosystems, and cultural heritage management. She employs fuzzy logic methodologies to analyze competitiveness and regional development. Her recent publications address destination marketing in the Azores, leisure trends during the pandemic, and gender representation in tourism academia.
Grants & Projects: She coordinates projects on entrepreneurship ecosystems (CeNTER program) and territorial innovation in Portugal. Her federal roles include managing the eTec Network and Tourism Regionalization Program in Brazil.
Labs/Teams: She contributes to the Tourism and Development Research Group at the University of Aveiro and collaborates with the CEEaplA.
