Specializing in Foreign Language Education and Second Language Acquisition, Woolsey's research centers on Spanish pedagogy and linguistic acquisition, particularly the verb estar with adjectives. His development of the Ritmos and Rostros curricula revolutionized beginner and intermediate Spanish instruction by integrating oral proficiency with cultural competency through exploration of Hispanic history, literature, and societal concepts.
His publication pattern reveals consistent innovation in language education methodology, blending empirical SLA research with practical curriculum design to address challenges in world language departments. This dual focus on theoretical linguistics and classroom application defines his scholarly contributions.
As an academic leader, Woolsey directs co-curricular initiatives including student-led Spanish conversation groups, community ESL programs, and reciprocal language partnerships. He previously directed the Spanish Immersion Continuation Program (2016-2021) and currently advises high school students in dual enrollment courses.
He is developing a May Term program to northern Spain centered on the Camino Francés pilgrimage route, reflecting his commitment to immersive cultural experiences.
