Dr. Daniel Westervelt is a Lamont Associate Research Professor at Columbia University's Columbia Climate School, specifically within the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, NY. He also serves as a Columbia University Climate and Life Fellow, leading a project on air pollution and climate change in Africa. Additionally, he is an affiliated scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute of Space Studies and an air pollution advisor to the U.S. State Department.
Dr. Westervelt holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (2013), an MS from the same institution (2009), and a BS from Purdue University (2008).
His research focuses on Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate Change, with a particular emphasis on understanding the interplay between air pollution and global climate dynamics. He has contributed to projects addressing environmental challenges in Africa and collaborates with governmental and space agencies to inform policy and scientific advancements.
