Daniel Ussishkin is a Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in modern European and British history. His research focuses on the conceptual evolution of morale, imperial governance, and decolonization in British Asian colonies. He holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and has authored Morale: A Modern British History (2017), examining how Britons conceptualized and institutionalized morale.

His research explores how collective attitudes and morale shaped political projects and institutional practices in modern Britain. Current projects include a cultural history of decolonization in British Asian colonies and the governance of imperial rule. Awards: Vilas Associate (2017–2019), Center for the Humanities First Book Award (2013), Hanadiv Postdoctoral Fellowship (2009–2011), and the James Kettner Dissertation Prize (2007).
He has advised numerous graduate students and contributed to interdisciplinary discussions on global history. His work bridges social, political, and cultural history, emphasizing the interplay between theory and practice in historical analysis.
