- M.S., Forestry (with Minor in Spatial Science), Stephen F. Austin State University, 2013
His research emphasizes avian population dynamics in grassland ecosystems, including lesser prairie-chicken conservation, megafire impacts on habitats, and the role of the Conservation Reserve Program in sustaining populations. Recent projects analyze nesting habitat availability, woody encroachment, and grazing management for habitat optimization.
Scientific awards include being shortlisted for The Wildlife Society’s best journal article of 2020 (2019 paper). He has secured grants exceeding $5 million from agencies like the National Wild Turkey Federation, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and USDA, with notable funded projects on wild turkey ecology and grassland conservation. His presentations at conferences such as The Wildlife Society Annual Conference and Kansas Natural Resources Conference highlight collaborations with institutions like The Nature Conservancy and Playa Lakes Joint Venture.
