Daniel Ruiz-Molina

Daniel Ruiz-Molina is a Tenured Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Group Leader of the Nanostructured Functional Materials Group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2). With over two decades of experience since obtaining his PhD from the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona in 2001, he completed postdoctoral training at the University of California San Diego working on single-molecule magnets and molecular switches.

His research focuses on biomimetic functional nanostructures, particularly inspired by catechol chemistry found in mussels. His work spans fabrication of hybrid colloids and surfaces, micro- and nanoparticles for smart applications, and encapsulation and delivery systems. His group has made significant contributions to coordination polymer nanoparticles, polydopamine-like materials, and thermochromic/electrochromic systems with applications in drug delivery, biosensors, and smart windows.
