Daniel Regnier is a Professor of Philosophy at STM College, where he serves as Acting Head of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. His research focuses on Ancient Philosophy, the transmission of Greek thought into Arabic contexts, Comparative Philosophy (particularly Greece and China), German Idealism, and the Philosophy of Music. He holds a Ph.D. from the École Pratique des Hautes Études (Paris), an M.A. from Ludwig-Maximillians Universität (Munich), and a B.A. from McGill University (Montreal).
His current research projects include a SSHRC-funded study on the transmission of Plotinian thought into Arabic and an exploration of Merab Mamardashvili’s political thought. Recent publications span topics like the Theology of Aristotle, Ibn Tufayl’s influence on Thomas More, and intersections between Plotinus and film theory. Teaching responsibilities include introductory world philosophies courses and specialized classes on ancient philosophy and Kant.
Administratively, he contributes to STM College committees and oversees departmental leadership. His work bridges historical philosophical traditions with cross-cultural and contemporary inquiries, particularly in underexplored areas of Islamic and Eastern European thought.
