Dr. Daniel Ostergaard is a Clinical Professor in the Sonoco International Business Department at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. With expertise spanning public-private partnerships, business-government relations, critical infrastructure, security, and cybersecurity, he has extensive diplomatic and multinational corporate experience across 77 countries. Dr. Ostergaard joined the Moore School in 2010 after distinguished service in both public and private sectors, including roles as Executive Director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Advisory Council and command positions in the U.S. Coast Guard.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in International Business (2016), MPA from Harvard University (2004), M.A. from U.S. Naval War College (2003), and B.S. from U.S. Coast Guard Academy (1994).
Dr. Ostergaard's research explores how hybridization of firm/government arrangements creates sustainable competitive advantage, with additional interests in international security, transnational terrorism, and trade. His work blends theoretical frameworks with practical global experience, examining risk management in international contexts and economic globalization trends.
His publications consistently address the intersection of global business and security challenges, particularly focusing on post-9/11 security frameworks, maritime governance, and counterterrorism strategies. Recent articles analyze emerging technologies (AI) and demographic shifts in business environments.

His grants include counter-malign influence research in Georgia and CIBER awards for security studies. As former Master of International Business Program Director, he established global networks and industry partnerships.
He maintains active consulting through Ostergaard Global, LLC and contributes to policy development with US Agency for International Development and Department of Homeland Security.
