Daniel Murphy is an Assistant Professor of English and Director of The Boone Honors Program at Ferrum College. His academic work bridges American literature, media theory, and gender studies, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to cultural analysis.

Murphy's research examines intersections of literature, media, and technology, including ecocritical border narratives, feminist technics, and corporeal historiography in modernist texts. He explores how media forms shape cultural and political discourse.
Recent publications analyze works like Linda Hogan’s Solar Storms, Rachel Kushner’s novels, and television series such as Jessica Jones, with recurring themes of technophilia, identity construction, and media-intensive storytelling.
