Professor Daniel Mikhail is currently a Visiting Professor at the Laboratoire Dynamique du Langage, Université de Lyon (2022–2023). Previously, he served as Professor at the School of Linguistics, HSE University (2011–2022) and Associate Professor at Moscow State University (2007–2022). He holds a PhD in Linguistics from the Russian State University for Humanities (2001).
His research focuses on linguistic typology, sociolinguistics, and language documentation, with expertise in Caucasian languages (Archi, Mehweb, Rutul), Russian variation, and corpus linguistics. Notable projects include the World Atlas of Language Structures and the Atlas of Multilingualism in Daghestan. He has contributed to studies on grammatical categories (number, person, case) and acoustic phonetics.
