Daniel Marcus is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. His research focuses on Revolutionary and Early National America, the Atlantic World, and African American History. He holds a BA from the University of Cambridge (1984), and MA and PhD from Princeton University (1989, 1998). His work examines the intersections of revolution, slavery, law, and empire, with a notable emphasis on the American, French, and Haitian revolutions. He is the author of Scandal & Civility: Journalism and the Birth of American Democracy (Oxford University Press, 2008), which explores the role of partisan journalism in shaping early American political culture. Marcus has taught in both the U.S. and the U.K., and his research expands into the broader history of anti-slavery. He is currently accepting graduate students on a case-by-case basis.
