Daniel Leff is a Clinical Professor and Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College London's Department of Surgery and Cancer (Faculty of Medicine). He serves as Course Director for the MSc Healthcare & Design, co-leads the Neuroergonomics and Sensing module in the MRES Medical Robotics and Image Guided Intervention program, and oversees the Neuroergonomics and Perception research laboratory. His work integrates clinical practice, surgical training, and interdisciplinary innovation, particularly in breast oncology, medical robotics, and healthcare design.
Leff has pioneered novel surgical training methods for oncoplastic breast surgery and collaborates with institutions like the Royal College of Art to redesign patient pathways and clinical environments. His research focuses on neuroergonomics, cognitive workload assessment in surgery, and advanced imaging technologies (e.g., CLSM, mass spectrometry) for intraoperative margin assessment. He also investigates wearable devices for post-surgical recovery tracking and sustainable operating theatre practices.
His publications span breast cancer surgery techniques, surgical education, and technologies like fluorescence-guided surgery and confocal microscopy. He has supervised doctoral students in neuroimaging applications for surgical skill evaluation and actively contributes to guideline audits (e.g., sentinel lymph node biopsy protocols). Leff’s interdisciplinary approach bridges clinical practice, engineering, and design to address complex healthcare challenges.
