His research focuses on sleep regulation through neural circuitry, using chemogenetics, optogenetics, and EEG/EMG recordings in mouse models. Studies include Alzheimer's disease progression, memory consolidation, and hypercapnia response mechanisms.
Recent publications highlight his work on REM sleep regulation (2019), galaninergic sleep promotion (2018), and neurotensin neuron effects (2019). His 2023 work explores sleep-memory interactions in aging and neurodegenerative contexts.
Dr. Kroeger actively participates in editorial work (Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience) while maintaining his Sleep and Behavior Lab at Auburn University. His research combines basic neurophysiology with translational applications in sleep disorders and neurodegenerative disease.
