Daniel Kodaj serves as Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest and holds a Visiting Professor position at Central European University (CEU) Vienna. His academic focus spans metaphysics, philosophy of religion, epistemology, and logic, with particular expertise in antimaterialist frameworks including idealism and theistic metaphysics.
His educational background includes a PhD in Philosophy from Central European University (2014), MA in Philosophy from University of Pécs (2010), and MA in Economics from Corvinus University (2004). These interdisciplinary foundations inform his distinctive approach to philosophical inquiry.
Kodaj's research demonstrates exceptional depth in subjective idealism and teleological metaphysics, challenging materialist orthodoxy through rigorous analysis of concepts like spooky teleology and divine omnipotence. His work uniquely bridges analytic philosophy with science fiction/fantasy narratives, creating accessible pathways into complex metaphysical debates through Hungarian-language public outreach including the FiloVizio YouTube channel and Night of the P-Zombies introduction to philosophy.
Analysis of his 14 publications (2014-2025) reveals three dominant trajectories: systematic defense of antimaterialism, innovative treatments of the problem of evil, and explorations of quantum mechanics' metaphysical implications. His scholarship consistently prioritizes conceptual coherence over doctrinal allegiance, evidenced by collaborations across theological and atheistic perspectives.
As an educator, Kodaj teaches advanced seminars including Metaphysics of Social Systems, Philosophy of AI, and Subjective Idealism at both ELTE and CEU. His pedagogical approach integrates traditional analytic methods with science fiction case studies, reflecting his commitment to making philosophy relevant to contemporary technological and cultural debates. He has also developed specialized curricula like The Labyrinth of Metaphysics for high school students through UK charity The Brilliant Club.
