Daniel Joudrey is a Professor and Director of the Libraries and Librarianship Concentration at the School of Library and Information Science, Simmons University. Since joining the faculty in 2005, he has taught foundational courses such as LIS 415 (Information Organization), LIS 416 (Descriptive Cataloging), and LIS 417 (Subject Cataloging and Classification). His career includes roles as a teaching fellow and research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh under cataloging authority Dr. Arlene G. Taylor, as well as a metadata policy intern at the Library of Congress. Prior to his academic career, Joudrey worked in an international non-profit social services organization.

Joudrey specializes in the organization of information, focusing on cataloging, metadata, and classification systems. His research explores the theoretical and practical dimensions of subject access, aboutness, and vocabulary control, with applications to traditional systems like the Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings. He is currently working on the 12th edition of Introduction to Cataloging and Classification, continuing his contributions to foundational LIS literature.
Joudrey’s publications emphasize pedagogical approaches to cataloging and the evolution of metadata standards. His recent work reflects trends in graduate education for librarianship and the integration of digital practices into classical cataloging frameworks. He is actively involved in the American Library Association and serves on the Dewey Decimal Editorial Policy Committee, contributing to the ongoing refinement of library classification tools.
