Daniel J Newcombe is a Senior Lecturer and Subject Coordinator for the Sport, Coaching and Physical Education degree at Oxford Brookes University, holding a BSc, MSc, and PCTHE. He leads the BSc program and teaches core modules including Coaching Practice to Theory 2 and Human Movement and Skill in Sport, focusing on integrating practical coaching with theoretical frameworks.
His research centers on bridging theory-practice gaps in sports pedagogy through ecological dynamics, with expertise in Constraints-Led Approach and non-linear pedagogy. Current projects include analyzing play-based curricula's impact on children's physical literacy in primary schools, aiming to optimize practitioner environment design through operationalized ecological dynamics frameworks.
Daniel actively contributes to the Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity Research Group (SEPARG) and serves as assistant coach for the Welsh National Hockey team and head coach of Southgate's men's national hockey league team. He is integral to GB Hockey's performance coaching group, driving coach development initiatives and consultancy work with national sporting bodies.
