Daniel Hensel is a composer and academic researcher affiliated with Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, where he works in systematic musicology. As a Senior Lecturer in historical musicology at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main since 2011, he bridges practical composition with theoretical analysis. His habilitation project on the motets of Orlando di Lasso and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, completed in 2016, earned him the title Privatdozent. He has collaborated extensively with international conductors, ensembles, and soloists, including Manfred Honeck, Ensemble Modern, and Edgar Reitz.
- Education: Composition studies under Heinz Winbeck (Würzburg), Manfred Trojahn (Düsseldorf), and Michael Obst (Weimar); Musicology and Ancient History at Goethe University Frankfurt.
- Technical Expertise: Specializes in electroacoustic composition and computer music, proficient in Csound, Max/MSP, Pure Data, SuperCollider, and Java programming.
- Software Development: Co-developed "PALESTRINIZER" music analysis software with Ingo Jache.
His research focuses on historical modes, sound design in Renaissance motets, and computational methods in musicology.
