Daniel Giraldo-Wonders

Dr. Daniel Giraldo-Wonders is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Bard College at Simon's Rock. He holds a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and an MA (with honors) from Université de Montréal. His research focuses on queer artistic expressions, gender/sexuality dynamics in Latin America, and Latin American popular culture. He teaches courses in applied linguistics, creative writing, and Hispanic studies. Dr. Giraldo’s work bridges European/North American and Latin American sexual/gender theories, emphasizing local contexts.

His research interests include LGBTQ artistic expressions, indigenous cosmologies, and subversive discourses in Latin American literature. He has presented at conferences like Queering Paradigms and the Canadian Federation for Humanities. Awards include the Andrew Mellon Fellowship and Bombardier Scholarship for his analysis of Fernando Vallejo’s Our Lady of the Assassins.

Dr. Giraldo previously coordinated the Spanish Resources Center at Université de Montréal and served as editorial assistant for Variedades Borges. He joined Simon’s Rock faculty in 2016.
