Daniel Gilbert is the Edgar Pierce Professor of Psychology at Harvard University's Department of Psychology. His research focuses on affective forecasting, social cognition, and the psychology of happiness. He earned a PhD from Princeton University and holds honorary doctorates from Yale University and Bates College.
Gilbert's work examines how people predict emotional responses, cognitive biases in decision-making, and cross-cultural patterns in mental experiences. Key themes include the 'impact bias' in emotional prediction, the 'end of history illusion,' and hedonic adaptation mechanisms.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on judgment errors, social perception, and emotional forecasting, with recent work exploring conversational dynamics, moral perceptions, and fairness illusions. Award-winning books and media projects translate these findings for public audiences.
