Daniel Gianola

Prof. Daniel Gianola is a Sewall Wright Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with joint appointments in Dairy Science and Biostatistics. He holds a Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship at the TUM-IAS since 2012. His research focuses on genomic prediction methods for complex traits in agriculture and medicine, leveraging statistical learning techniques to address genome complexity. Gianola earned degrees from the Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

**Research Interests:** Developing statistical methodologies for genomic prediction, integrating high-dimensional genomic data into breeding programs and personalized medicine. His work bridges quantitative genetics, machine learning, and computational biology.

**Awards:** Recipient of the Hilldale Award (2015), Alexander von Humboldt Senior Research Award (2007), and multiple honorary doctorates (Iowa State, Aarhus, Göttingen).

**Grants & Collaborations:** Extensive consulting for international organizations (World Bank, USAID). Leads the Statistical and Quantitative Genomics focus group at TUM-IAS, collaborating with Prof. Schön.
