Daniel Fernandez

Daniel Fernandez is a Professor in the Department of Applied Environmental Science at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), within the College of Science. He co-coordinates the Environmental Studies program and teaches courses in first-year physics, Sustainability Systems, Environmental Studies Capstone, and Infrastructure Systems.

Dr. Fernandez's primary research focuses on fog water collection systems, studying techniques to assess fog presence and maximize water collection. His work has significant implications for sustainable water solutions in coastal regions. He actively manages the Sustainable City Year Program, which connects university expertise with community sustainability needs through the EPIC Model for university-community partnerships.

His research publications demonstrate expertise in environmental monitoring, water resources, and atmospheric science, particularly regarding fog water collection efficiency and chemical composition. His work spans technical aspects of fog collection systems to environmental chemistry of fog water, including studies on mercury pollution in coastal fog.
