Dr. Daniel F. Sarpong serves as a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of General Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and Executive Director of the Office of Health Equity Research (OHER).
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Biometry from State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans (1991)
- MS in Mathematics from New Mexico Highlands University (1986)
- BSc in Mathematics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (1981)
Dr. Sarpong's research focuses on translational approaches to mitigate biological and social determinants of health disparities, particularly in chronic diseases. His work spans biostatistics methodology, health equity research, and community-centered interventions.
Before joining Yale, Dr. Sarpong held significant leadership positions at Xavier University of Louisiana as Tenured Professor of Biostatistics, Endowed Chair of Health Disparities, and Director of the Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities. He also directed Community Engagement Cores for major research centers including Xavier RCMI Cancer Center and Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science Center.
His earlier career (2000-2010) featured prominent roles with the Jackson Heart Study as Director and Co-Principal Investigator of the Coordinating Center at Jackson State University, where he also managed data systems and served as Senior Biostatistician.
As Executive Director of OHER, Dr. Sarpong leads initiatives addressing health equity through community partnerships, as evidenced by recent collaborations on cancer care equity awards, community listening sessions, and New Haven health equity projects.
