Professor Daniel F. Garrett is a Professor of Economics at the University of Essex and a Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). He holds an Associate Faculty position at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and previously served as a Professor at TSE until 2023. He earned his PhD in Economics from Northwestern University in 2012. His research focuses on microeconomic theory, industrial organization, and regulatory economics, with notable contributions to dynamic mechanism design, price discrimination, and managerial compensation.
Professor Garrett has secured significant research funding, including an ERC Starting Grant (2017–2023) and a UKRI Frontier Research Grant (2024–2029). He is an Associate Editor at the Review of Economic Studies. His work has been recognized with awards such as the Distinguished CESifo Affiliate Award (2016) and the EARIE Young Economists Essay Award (2019).
His research interests span dynamic pricing strategies, auction theory, and the design of incentive-compatible contracts. Recent publications include studies on relational contracts, optimal technology design, and the welfare effects of price discrimination in oligopolistic markets.
Professor Garrett currently supervises PhD student Tejpal Singh Sandhu and collaborates with institutions like the CEPR and TSE. His work integrates theoretical models with practical applications in regulatory policy and market design.
