Daniel Enrique Garcia

Daniel Enrique Garcia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where he has served since 2016. He concurrently holds a faculty research appointment at UTA’s Center for Mexican American Studies (2019–2021). His roles include Program Coordinator for the Certificate in Film Studio Readiness and Committee Chair for the Hiring Committee in Art and Art History.

Education: Garcia holds a MFA in Film Production from Ohio University (2003), an MA in Communication from Wheaton College (1997), and a BA in Linguistics and Literature from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Perú (1992). He is an AVID Media Composer Certified Instructor since 2011.

Research Interests: Garcia’s work focuses on socially engaged filmmaking, particularly documenting marginalized communities. His documentaries include *Lurigancho* (2002–2009) on Peruvian prison life, *The Gift of All* (2008–2009) on philanthropy, and *Tempestad* (2018), exploring undocumented families’ struggles. Recent projects include *Todo Por Los 15 Mil* (2021), addressing LGBTQ+ themes, and a feature-length film in development.

Awards: His films have garnered acclaim at festivals such as the Boston International Latino Film Festival, HBO New York Latino Film Festival, and Reel Affirmations. Notable recognitions include the Platinum Award (2018) and Best Cinematography (2018) for *Tempestad*.

Teaching & Service: Garcia teaches courses in screenwriting, cinema production, and film editing. He advises numerous graduate students and serves on thesis committees. His service roles include Chairperson for the End of Semester Show, member of UTA’s Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and jurist for screenplay competitions like the Austin Film Festival.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates on projects like *The Last Train: A Public Art Project* (2020–present) and *FirstHand* (2018), a VR film showcased at the ACM SIGGRAPH conference.
