Dr. Daniel E. Wells is an Associate Professor in the Department of Horticulture at Auburn University’s College of Agriculture. His research focuses on improving vegetable production in controlled environments such as greenhouses and vertical farms in the Southeast. He leads the AU Vertical Farms Project and the Rane Culinary Science Center Rooftop Garden Project, integrating research and teaching to address urban agriculture challenges. His work emphasizes sustainable systems linking seed-to-plate food production.
Dr. Wells teaches courses including Hydroponics (HORT 2060), Advanced Controlled Environment Agriculture (HORT 4970/7970), Plant Nutrition (HORT 7050), and Organic Gardening (HORT 2040). His research team collaborates across disciplines at facilities like the Aquaponics Facility (E.W. Shell Fisheries Center), Rooftop Gardens (Rane Culinary Sciences Building), and Freight Farms hydroponic systems.
