Daniel E. Bender

Daniel E. Bender is Professor at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science, holding appointments in the Department of Historical and Cultural Studies and directing the Culinaria Research Centre. He serves as Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Food and Culture. His education includes a PhD from New York University (2001).

Research interests focus on the cultural history of food, environmental humanities, and labor studies, with particular emphasis on:

• Global culinary tourism and food mobilities
• Colonial and post-colonial food politics
• Animal studies and human-wildlife relations
• Cultural dimensions of food systems

Bender's publications demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches to cultural history, frequently examining how food practices reflect broader social and political transformations. Recent work explores the intersection of travel, colonialism, and culinary exchange.
